Pattern Vogue 1027 Dress

Pattern Description: Calf length dress has semi-fitted, pleated and lapped bodice, bias skirt with inseam pockets and stitched hems.

Pattern Sizing: 6-12, 14-22. I made an 8 (instead of my usual 12. This pattern does run large!). I’m so proud of myself. I traced out my 8 instead of cutting it, just to make sure that if I needed to alter the pattern, the original pattern is still in tact. As luck would have it, 8 ended up being the perfect size!

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing? Yes! The black floral dress was my muslin. I made the pink after I was sure the black one fit. I love them both!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes! This dress is so easy to make. Each dress took about two-and-a-half hours to make (excluding cutting).

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the look of the shoulders, the pleated bodice, and the full skirt.

Fabric used: Slinky spandex knit from Fabric.com. Both fabrics were an impulse buy while I was surfing the net at work. The fabric worked out great for this dress, but it’s a bit heavy for this time of the year.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I left out the pockets and the elastic around the waist (I can see why they suggest elasticizing the waist. There is a teeny bit of extra fabric there that the elastic would have otherwise cinched up. However, the tie band takes care of any looseness in the waist). I followed Christina’s example and folded the tie in half so that the wrong side of the fabric doesn’t show. Also, I omitted the sleeve facing. I just serged the edge, turned under and hemmed. Also, for the neckline, I hemmed it at 3/8″ versus the instruction’s 5/8″.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I’ve sewn it twice, and I think that about does it for me, at least during this season! I highly recommend this pattern to others. It’s super easy and extremely flattering.

Conclusion I got so many compliments on my floral muslin; I couldn’t believe it. I thought the fabric was rather crazy, but I got rave reviews from friends when I wore it last weekend. I even got a request from a friend to make a dress for her!

  1. The print on both of these dresses are great and work really well with the simple lines of the dress. Congrats on making two winners!

I get your excitement over tracing the patterns before cutting too. I’ve been tracing for awhile but I always have to resist that nagging voice in me that goes, “Just cut it, think about how much faster it will go.”

  2. Pirouette .- pretty dress (in two versions). I love the black version with flowers. I also have this model on my list of projects, I wish I could make in black for my sister. I now have their own example, thank you. Best wishes, Paco
