Review | McCall’s 5523 Skirt

Pattern: McCall’s 5523 Skirt (View D)

Pattern Description: Straight skirt, mid-knee length, has side zipper and faced waistline; skirt D has two lower back flounces.

Fabric: fashion fabric–brown tropical-weight worsted wool; underlining–brown rayon.

Notions: 7″ invisible zipper

Overall: This was a very easy skirt to put together. I cut out the same exact pieces of underlining as the fashion fabric and machine basted the underlining to the fashion fabric to treat it as one piece. I thought about making a lining with the free-hanging skirt, but I chose underlining to add more body to the worsted wool. Tropical weight wool is very thin, tends to wrinkle, and has a tiny bit of a sheen to it. I used French seams for all of the seams and overlocked the edge of the facing with my serger. I like the style of the skirt, and the flounces add an extra feel of femininity.
