This is a quick show-and-tell of a crochet project I have been working on for a while. I finally finished it after a year–yes, a year! The hoodie consists mainly of single crochet, so it was a pretty monotonous project that seemed to drag on and on. But I wanted to have the hoodie completed for the fall.
The yarn I used for the hoodie is Red Heart Boutique Midnight, which is an acrylic and wool blend with some festive sparkles dispersed throughout. I love the color Serenade, which is a blend of magenta and violet. The yarn itself is a bit on the coarse side and could irritate your skin, so you might want to wear a thin, long-sleeved shirt underneath. The other thing I did not like about this yarn is that the coarse texture makes the fabric look “old.”
The instructions were relatively easy to follow. The hoodie starts off with a foundation single crochet and primarily consists of single crochet in the front loop with spike stitching at several intervals. It should be noted that Crochet Today! published some corrections on its website. I don’t know if the corrects are still posted.
Edit 10/29/2015: Crochet Today! has been discontinued. This is such a bummer! I really liked that magazine because it featured some of the most accessible and attractive crochet projects.
I’m glad I finished this project, but I don’t think I will make it again. If I do make it again, I will use a softer yarn.
Here is the finished result:
